david smith: cubes and anarchy @ lacma.

I'm embarrassed to say it has been a while since I have ventured to LACMA, even though they are just down the street.  I missed the Christian Marclay Clock 24 hour run (thankfully, another is slated for later this month) and the David Smith show has been up forever.  I finally stopped by, catching a bit of the Friday night jazz and the Smith exhibition, Cubes and Anarchy.
A seriously overlooked artist (outside the art world), the exhibition provides thematic and chronological study of Smith's sculpture works and examples of his works on paper and canvases.  Cubes and Anarchy refer to the artist's Russian avant garde influence and alignment with the American blue collar worker.  The installation in the Resnick Pavilion, while interesting, is somewhat distracting and it is unfortunate the very mainstream Tim Burton show seems to overshadow it in the museum.
Through July 24th.  More info: LACMA.org
