Yes, my name really is spelled that way.

another reason Hammer is my fave museum.

I love the Hammer Museum - and this week, I had another reason: they are screening the censored David Wojnarowicz’s A Fire in My Belly (A Work in Progress) this week only until December 17th.  The hours of the screening are difficult (11 am - 6 pm) but it was completely worth it.  I was lucky to take the time to view this groundbreaking work.
For those of you who have not heard of this piece, it was included in a recent exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in the Smithsonian Museum.  Conservative religious groups (all of whom probably did not see the show let alone any art or museum show in the last 5 years) demanded it be removed - invoking the 24 hour Republican news circuit (the repulsive Fox News).  Despite of not having a single personal complaint at the museum, they succeeded in removing the work - to the outrage of the art world.

The Hammer Museum is one of the few institutions taking a stand against the censorship by showing the film on continuous loop.  Please show your support by supporting the Hammer and/or seeing the exhibition.
